There is a three-dimensional framework that we should all build our families beliefs on: religious community, religious practices, and religious beliefs.
Religious community and family is the first one. It expresses the importance of religion in our marriages. But not just religion itself, church attendance. Many people claim to be of a certain denomination but never attend. Numerous studies showed that couples were happier and had less infidelity cases when the couple attended church together.
Religious practices are physical, observable expressions of faith such as prayer, scripture study, rituals, and traditions. Praying as a family is probably the single most important thing we can do within our families to invite the spirit into our home and to show our children what we believe and why. I have many memories of my family and I praying together at dinner and before we would go to bed at night. It is truly a bonding agent.
Having the same religious beliefs as your spouse appears to be one of the stronger religious predictors of marital quality. When a mother and father have similar beliefs, their marriage is usually that much stronger. Religious beliefs influence not just your own life but your families life as well. This is why it is so important to have similar beliefs to your spouse.
