In my home, family activities are a must. We go out to eat as a family. My father and I play golf together. I play basketball with my brothers. I babysit for my sister and occasionally go out to eat with her and her two sons. I hang out with my mom and talk about life. We do all kinds of different things together and it is essential and necessary for our closeness and love.
Life is busy and we are all moving fast, but we need to find ways and time to do things together as a family. It strengthens the bonds within the family. The text cites a research study that shows overwork directly affects the family by adding stress and reducing opportunities for positive interaction. Many parents are working more hours and kids are doing more schoolwork and extracurricular activities in school. The result is a family that spends less time together. We should take the times that we do have together and make the best of it. We should not waste it sitting around playing on our phones or just staring at each other. We need to find ways to bond by playing games, watching movies, reading scriptures, and even having family dinners together.
Family dinner was always my favorite part of the day. It was a time for me to relax and spend time with the people that I loved. We would talk about our day and discuss things coming up. We would also just enjoy each others company. Having family dinner was something that I felt extremely blessed to have and plan on carrying on that same tradition with my own family someday.
