Often times throughout life we are offended by someone or we are the offender. Sometimes this happens within the walls of our own home. When the victim and the offender are connected through an ongoing relationship, this is known as interpersonal transgression. It is important for us to forgive our family members when they make a mistake, but we need not suppose it will take care of itself just because we are related. We need to take the initiative and forgive them personally.
Jesus said, "But if ye do not forgive, your Father which is in heaven will not forgive your trespasses." We have been given the great gift of the Atonement, which enables us to repent and be forgiven for our sins and transgressions. We should not be ashamed to use this gift, Jesus performed the perfect infinite Atonement because he knew we would makes mistakes. That is why it is there for us! Along with asking forgiveness we also need to grant forgiveness as Jesus stated. We are commanded to forgive all who trespass against us, regardless of the sin or sinner. It is what Jesus would do.
